Returning Home Movie Screening
Canada’s Residential Schools are the legacy of a world where relationships are severed in the service of power and where people become detached from one another and the complex webs of interdependence. Among the Secwépemc in British Columbia, one such story is that of Phyllis Jack-Webstad, a residential school survivor whose experiences inspired the Orange Shirt Day movement.
RETURNING HOME follows Phyllis on a nationwide educational tour, while her family struggles to heal multigenerational wounds at home in Secwépemc territory. Amid a global pandemic and the lowest salmon run in Canadian history, the film also explores the absence of salmon along the upper Fraser River, and how a multi-year fishing moratorium is tearing at the fabric of Secwépemc communities. By bearing witness to the trauma experienced by Phyllis and her family, RETURNING HOME holds a mirror to the trauma experienced by the natural world, too. For the Secwépemc, healing people and healing the natural world are one and the same.

Salmon Trail Kick Off!
The Salmon Trail is a joint project between Redd Fish Restoration Society and the Ucluelet Aquarium, consisting of six different educational stations across Ucluelet and Tofino on different days of the week. The stations aim to educate about the salmon lifecycle and why salmon is so important to coastal communities. Each station has a different activity- complete the activity, get a passport stamp!
Find the Salmon Trail Calendar of Booth Locations HERE
Once you have visited each station and completed the activity associated with it, you will receive this year’s coveted Salmon Trail Patch.

Make and Mend: Grief & Repair
A Workshop on Grief, Storytelling, and Mending
How do we process grief individually? What role does community play in collective grieving? What have we been taught about our grief—and how does that affect how we talk about it? Most importantly, how can we begin to put ourselves back together?
Join us for an evening of conversation, connection, and hands-on mending. Together, we’ll explore:
- The stories we carry about grief—where they come from and how they shape us
- The role of community in holding grief, and how we navigate collective grief
- How creativity and care—through patchwork, stitching, and gentle conversation—can become acts of resilience
- How to hold space for our own unique grieving processes
What to expect:
- A safe and brave space to share, listen, and reflect
- Hands-on instruction in visible mending techniques—learn how to mend your clothes with patchwork and stitching (bring something to mend if you can!)
- Stories of transformational grief from culture and community
- An exploration of grief as a force of change and creation
Let’s come together to stitch our stories, our clothes, and our hearts back together.
Details: FREE ENTRY
Where: Redd Fish Supply Co
When: 6-8pm

Redd Fish presents GO FISH
GO FISH takes viewers inside the annual herring migration- when hundreds of millions of herring return to the Salish Sea. Their spawn paints a milky turquoise collar along its shores. For a few chaotic days, the Salish Sea is transformed.
GO FISH captures the patterns of this mayhem as the herring “set the table” and we discover the extraordinary cast of wildlife and humans who come to dinner.
A video triptych with immersive sound, GO FISH envelops viewers in natural wonder of this annual spectacle. There are no interviews and no narration. Filmed underwater, topside, and from the air, GO FISH plays across three screens-the story becoming a kaleidoscope of images and sound, framing the familiar with an unfamiliar frame.
GO FISH will be at Redd Fish Supply Co from March 15th-19th, launching with a visit from the artists at 6:30 on the 15th. It will be available to view 16th-19th from 10-5pm.
Thank you to the Comox Valley Art Gallery for lending us this stunning exhibit, to Pacific Salmon Foundation for giving us the capacity to host this, and to the artists Scott Smith and Nettie Wild for their vision and support!

Annual Back Roads Clean-Up
It's that time again for the annual community clean up of the back roads around Ucluelet and Tofino.
As tradition holds, we'll be meeting at the junction at 11am to organize ourselves and wrapping up at the landfill at 3pm.
If you have a vehicle you don't mind getting a bit dirty, bring it along or jump in with someone else at the junction. Glove supplies are limited so please bring your own if you have them. Garbage bags will be provided. The nature of our west coast weather can not be determined at this given time so dress appropriately for the weather and we clean rain or shine!
Prizes will be awarded once again for exceptional individuals and unusual or particularly disgusting items dealt with.
We look forward to seeing you all this year!
Thanks to this amazing community for your care and concern for our local watersheds.
We remind everyone that this is a respectful event and to be mindful and considerate during the clean up.
Boat to Tailgate 2024
Celebrating life on the West Coast, Boat to Tailgate is a fundraising event for Redd Fish Restoration Society, and associated non-profit salmon restoration efforts in Clayoquot Sound.
For two weeks leading up to the event local sport and recreation fisherman catch a bounty of seafood from dungeness crab to fresh tuna and more. Local chefs from Tofino led by Madi Grayson and Kei Lowes of Toki Doki and Jason Sussman of Tacofino join forces to create a delicious seafood buffet. All proceeds from the event support wild Pacific salmon recovery efforts in Clayoquot Sound. Come enjoy live music, drinks from the Tofino Distillery and Merridale Cidery, and seafood buffet!
Sea Star Wasting Survey
Join us this summer for a sea star survey! Sea Star Wasting Syndrome (SSWS) has decimated the sea star population along the shores of Western North America, quite literally causing sea stars to waste away. This is our 10th year of surveys at the Tonquin Beach location! No experience necessary, meet us at the Tonquin Beach Parking Lot and dress for the weather. No registration required, see you there!
Weaving With Invasive Species
Join community-engaged environmental artist Juliana Bedoya to learn how to reciprocally forage plants considered invasive in our bioregion. Explore effective collection methods, fiber processing techniques, storage, and preparation for basketmaking. Participants will practice various weaving techniques and create a unique woven piece by the end of each workshop. Juliana will also share insights on cultural, environmental, and conservation perspectives that support native ecological restoration and the values of reverence for places and the plant teachers and the interspecies that live in them.
