Get ready to strap in for The West Coast Triple Plank this April 25-28
Volunteer co-founder and pro snowboarding legend Marie-France Roy started this epic fundraiser with snowboarder and artist Alicia Gilmour back in 2017 with a vision to celebrate the vibrant culture and communities of snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding. Their mission? To raise funds for Redd Fish Restoration for the preservation of the very ecosystems and environments that fuel their passions.
Now in its 7th year, the three-sport event has raised $80k for restoration and research on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This year the organizers are aiming to hit $100k in total funds raised over the years – all for the love of wild salmon.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Marie-France and Alicia for spearheading this grassroots event and rallying this community around ecosystem restoration,” said Redd Fish executive director Jessica Hutchinson. “A big thank-you to every single person who makes Triple Plank a success.”
The event has grown in popularity and scale each year and now spans four days, selling out in less than a minute. "The energy and camaraderie at Triple Plank are truly infectious," said Marie-France Roy. "We're stoked to see everyone from kids and seasoned riders alike come together in the spirit of friendly competition and eagerness to get their hands dirty in some restoration work.”
The weekend starts with a "dig day" at Mt. Washington, where volunteers build the snowboard course together. Then, it's off to the races with the iconic West Coast Triple Plank Banked Slalom, followed by surf events at Cox Bay, and a roll up your sleeve's restoration afternoon. Following the restoration event, there will be a movie night on Saturday featuring Redd Fish speakers and a silent auction. The competition ends at Tofino’s skatepark on Sunday, with sweet prizes up for grabs along the whole way. The action-packed event includes a final concert to wrap up the four-day community gathering.
Even for those not competing, there are many family-friendly options to get involved, including cheering on the competitors, attending the evening events, and volunteering at the broom busting, invasive-species removal. Anyone can purchase an unlimited number of online raffle tickets to win over $9k worth of prizes from Patagonia, Yeti, and other brands.
